Toys for Bob have updated their website, which now displays a Tiki mask logo, possibly hinting at a new announcement coming soon.
The website now includes a purple Tiki mask, which is a part of Crash Bandicoot series, but the mask is purple which is a color that represents Spyro. Could this be a new Crash Bandicoot game or maybe a Crash Bandicoot x Spyro crossover game? Toys for Bob have developed Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, Spyro Reignited Trilogy and Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time. Their latest title was a multiplayer spin-off Crash Team Rumble.
Toys for Bob was under Activision umbrella since 2005 and were part of Microsoft’s acquisition in October of last year, but also a part of 1,900 job cuts institude by Microsoft in January 2024 of which 89 people were laid off from the studio. In February this year, Toys for Bob has announced it will become independent, but said it was exploring possible partnership with Microsoft. The Crash Bandicoot and Spyro intellectual properties have become part of Microsoft’s extensive portfolio. Later in March, Jez Corden of Windows Central has reported that Microsoft has reached an agreement with Toys for Bob for their new title, but it’s unknown what it could be.
Fans believed Toys for Bob was making a new Spyro game, as the studio was seemingly teasing a return of the purple dragon at numerous occasions. One of the cases was the picture of the developers sitting together and sharing their latest experiments in UE5, it included a blurred screen which has purple-ish colors on it. Another one was a blog post where they announced the departure from Activision, it included a sentence: “So keep your horns on and your eyes out for more news,” but the blog is currently not accessible with the website change. This could be nothing of course, but fans were trying to figure out what else was Toys for Bob working on aside from Crash Team Rumble.
After the development of Crash Bandicot 4: It’s About Time has wrapped up, it made sense Spyro the Dragon would also get his fourth installment. Both franchises are very successful, as both Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy and Spyro Reignited Trilogy have sold more than 10 million copies.
If Toys for Bob really is preparing an announcement, the upcoming Xbox Showcase set for June 9 would be the best place for it.
