A well known Capcom insider claims Resident Evil Zero and Code Veronica remakes are in development, while Resident Evil 1 and 5 are not.
Insider Dusk Golem responded on X about all the recent Resident Evil rumors.
Recently, he claimed Resident Evil 9 would be revealed this summer and launch in January 2025, but there was a possibility of a delay, which he now confirms to be delayed to late 2025 or 2026 with the announcement now coming later. “First, I would wipe the expectations of RE9 being announced this summer period,” says Dusk Golem. “The initial murmers I heard I now do believe are right, & RE9’s announcement is further away than this upcoming summer. Sorry for the back-and-forth on that, that’s my fault.”
He wents on to debunk RE 1 Remake rumors, saying they are ‘bullshit’ and as far as he knows it’s not in any form of development right now. He also says RE5 Remake is not in development either.
The remakes that are in development right now, according to Dusk Golem, are Zero and Code Veronica. “If everything I’ve heard is correct, which I fully believe it is, & I know others have hinted this & I’m not the first to say this publicly actually just its not caught on, there’s actually a remake of Resident Evil Zero & Code Veronica in development right now. I’ve talked to many others behind the scenes about this at this point, it’s something I heard over a year ago, think it was going to get out whether I was the one to say it or not, & that’s about it.”
When asked about Zero and CV remakes being handled by M-Two team, Dusk Golem says he heard Zero is primarly being lead by K2 & M-Two, while Code Veronica is Capcom Dev 1. “From what I’ve heard, Zero is primarily being lead by K2 & M-Two (who most recently did Separate Ways DLC for RE:4 & were a support studio on RE:4), Code Veronica is Capcom Dev 1 with a lot of the same people who worked on RE:2 & RE:4 though.”
Resident Evil Code Veronica released in 2000 for Dreamcast, followed by PlayStation 2 and GameCube releases. In 2011 it received PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 ports. Resident Evil Zero released in 2002 for GameCube, with Wii port many years later. A remastered version titled Resident Evil 0 released in 2016 and is currently available on all major platforms.
Some wound find Zero remake questionable instead of 1 or 5, but Zero takes places right before the first installment in the series so it makes sense they would tackle it before that. Code Veronica was highly requested by fans since it was stuck on old systems and never received a remaster treatment.
