The Division Heartland

Ubisoft has announced in its latest earnings report that the free-to-play extraction shooter The Division Heartland has been canceled.

“As part of Ubisoft’s efforts to streamline its operations and adapt to evolving market trends, there have been further reorganizations within the Global Publishing teams, both at the APAC region, that is now organized into three engagement hubs, and at the central level. Additionally, in line with the increased selectivity of its investments, Ubisoft has decided to stop development on The Division Heartland and has redeployed resources to bigger opportunities such as XDefiant and Rainbow Six.”

Tom Clancy’s The Division Heartland was announced in May 2021 and planned to release on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Amazon Luna. Multiple public tests were held after its announcement and the game was internally delayed a few times. The Division Heartland was even rated by Taiwanese ratings board in November 2023. The game was in development at Red Storm Entertainment, a studio behind original Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon games, as well as last year’s Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR. They will now be transitioning to other projects within the company, including XDefiant and Rainbow Six.

Ubisoft has reaffirmed that The Division mobile game titled The Division: Resurgence is still scheduled to launch in 2024. Last September, Ubisoft announced The Division 3 is in development with The Division Associate Creative Director and The Division 2 Creative Director Julian Gerighty returning to the brand as Executive Producer once he ships Star Wars Outlaws. A core focus of Gerighty’s is to build a team for Tom Clancy’s The Division 3, which will be led by Massive Entertainment, while making sure Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 remains well supported. Outside of that, his attention will be on a solidification of brand identity.

It’s currently unknown if The Division 3 is in development at the moment, but with Star Wars Outlaws luanching October 30, it is expected there will be more information regarding The Division 3.
