Iron Man game developed by Electronic Art’s Motive Studio will have an open world setting according to job listing.

Electronic Arts announced in September 2022 that Motive Studio is developing an Iron Game in collaboration with Marvel Games. The team is led by Olivier Proulx, who worked on past Marvel titles like Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, and is joined by a dedicated team of passionate industry veterans including Ian Frazier, Maëlenn Lumineau, and JF Poirier at the studio.

They also reveal the game will feature an original narrative that taps into the rich history of Iron Man, channeling the complexity, charisma, and creative genius of Tony Stark, and enabling players to feel what it’s like to truly play as Iron Man.

“We are thrilled to collaborate with the talented team at Motive Studio to bring their original vision of one of Marvel’s most important, powerful and beloved characters,” said Bill Rosemann, Vice President and Creative Director at Marvel Games. “Their experience delivering both established entertainment worlds and thrilling gameplay — combined with their authentic passion for the armored icon — will fuel our quest to deliver a love letter to a legendary hero in the form of the ultimate Iron Man video game.”

“It’s an honor and privilege to have the opportunity to make a video game based on one of the most iconic Super Heroes in entertainment today,” said Olivier Proulx, Executive Producer. “We have a great opportunity to create a new and unique story that we can call our own. Marvel is encouraging us to create something fresh. We have a lot of freedom, which is so engaging for the team.”

EA Goes Open World

Recent job listing at Motive confirms what has been suggested in the past listings, Iron Man will feature an open world setting.

Under the Iron Man job listing, Motive Studios is looking for Senior Technical Artist “to help oversee the rendering related aspects of an open world action/adventure AAA title.”

Aside from the game obviously being an action/adventure, we knew it’s being built in Unreal Engine 5 instead of EA’s proprietary Frostbite engine which has been used for both Motive’s previous works, Star Wars Squadrons and Dead Space Remake.

Yesterday it was revealed that EA’s Black Panther game will also feature an open world setting, while being built in Unreal Engine 5 as well. It’s not too surprising seing these games being open world, but EA moving away from their proprietary engine is certainly interesting.

Motive has two teams working on two different projects, recently EA has announced Motive will be joining the Battlefield development team.

Motive’s General Manager Patrick Klaus gave an update on Iron Man after Battlefield news, confirming the development continues to move forward on their Iron Man game. The team made an execellent progress this year, hitting a major internal milestone and laying a robust foundation for the journey ahead.
