Black Panther game developed by Electronic Art’s Cliffhanger Games will have an open world setting according to job listing.
Electronic Arts has announced a Black Panther game from Cliffhanger Games in July 2023, led by Kevin Stephens who was previously studio head at Warner Bros. Monolith Productions. Cliffhanger Games was founded in May 2021 and includes veterans from franchises like Halo, God of War and Call of Duty.
“We’re dedicated to delivering fans a definitive and authentic Black Panther experience, giving them more agency and control over their narrative than they have ever experienced in a story-driven video game. Wakanda is a rich Super Hero sandbox, and our mission is to develop an epic world for players who love Black Panther and want to explore the world of Wakanda as much as we do,” said Kevin.
Not much is known about EA’s Black Panther game aside from it being an action/adventure game built in Unreal Engine, but now we know it will feature an open world setting.

Open World Wakanda?
It wouldn’t be the first we visit Wakanda, as previously Black Panther came to Crystal Dynamic’s Marvel’s Avengers in post-launch update together with Wakanda and new storyline. Here, Black Panther was faced with an unprecedented invasion by Klaue that put his strength to the test as king, a leader, and a brother.
In recent job listing for EA’s Black Panther, asking for a Principal Sandbox Designer, more information about the game is revealed.
“Reporting to the Design Manager, the Sr. Technical Designer Sandbox will be instrumental in designing and populating encounters, systems, and gameplay within a dynamic and evolving open world.”
This marks the first official confirmation of Black Panther as an open world game. However, there is more:
– Work closely with the AI engineering team to create sophisticated AI behaviors that enhance the open-world experience, from urban crowds to wildlife ecosystems.
– Partner with the design team to integrate sandbox dynamics into the mission design, facilitating seamless transitions between structured missions and open-world exploration.
– 5+ Years experience in technical and sandbox design for open-world games, with a proven track record of creating engaging and dynamic environments.
– Support the development of systems and templates for dynamic events and interactions that respond to player actions and contribute to a living, breathing game world.
– Conceptualize and implement innovative sandbox features that push the boundaries of open-world gameplay.
The game appears to blend linear and structured missions with an evolving open-world environment. As players influence this dynamic world, unexpected events could create a unique experience, making the game replayable and every playthrough feel different.
